Women in PV
Define manel: noun. 1. a panel of experts or participants, for example on a TV quiz show or at a conference, that consists of men only.
In the world of photovoltaics (PV) research these are common. Even in 2023, many major conferences have proudly advertised all-male line-ups despite the field being awash with brilliant women.
Some time ago, Dr Jen Baker (@DrJenBaker) started a project collecting the names and details of women in the world of photovoltaics, both in industry and academia.
Since the PV-manel is still a problem years later, I’ve taken on the great work Jen began and am slowly but surely updating and adding to this list. Long Covid has slowed the project, and I’ve only updated the Europe-based list, but I’m planning on expanding this across all seven continents (even Antarctica… if anyone knows researchers based there).
The idea is for this to grow into a resource for conference and seminar organisers, meaning come conference season 2023, there’s no excuse for manels.

Note that the Women in PV list does not contain email (or any other contact) details. It is only a list of names designed as a resource to help make finding women working in solar science easier.
